Turns out, my son needs a car. Also turns out, by virtue of a series of unfortunate events, I have a spare: Tracy's Mazda CX-5.
SO WAS BORN the harebrained scheme to drive it across the US, and what better route than US50. That is, at least for this time, until Pueblo, Colorado. The pull south of Santa Fe and Big Bend, NP, were too great. But this way, I could see some old friends in San Antonio, a new one in NOLA (friend of Tracy's actually), and one of my new sisters in Pensacola. Such are the vicissitudes of road trip routing.
