Here I sit, 37C, awaiting departure from Dulles after driving 5400 miles, enduring 20 hotels, and swilling countless cups of joe. Would I do it again? Of course, dummy, it was awesome.
A few more highlights: seven national parks and monuments; three lighthouses; countless churches (it was the south, after all); about seven Waffle Houses (all of which are staffed with three young women, an old woman, and one man); 15 distributions of ashes; 172 gallons of gasoline; one train race; six tunnels; five drunk sailors; and one psychotic nut. Just 4700 pictures later, and it's a wrap, for now.
But worry not. Though the mission is suspended for the moment, it will resume shortly , because, after all, we're in the middle.
