When I hear the croaky tones of Stevie Nicks, I always think of one thing: Tim Ashbaugh, or as everyone called him, Timmy. I haven't seen him in about 45 years, but he is forever pegged to that memory.
He had the tiniest lisp. Ok, maybe not so tiny, but it was charming, and he was very earnest, and he had a "thing" for Stevie. Every time the subject came up, and it came up a lot with Timmy, he was very possessive, and a little defensive. I'd stir him up because it was fun to do, and he'd get in my face:
"If you talk about Stevie, I'm gonna haveta take ya down" he'd say. Menace with a lisp doesn't have quite the same impact I have to say. But I loved every second of it.
So "Landslide" was on the radio coming into Savannah, and I was thinking of little Timmy Ashbaugh the whole time, smiling.
One of my favorite songs. It actually gives me chills.
