After a long ferry ride from Cedar Island, Ocracoke was a nice respite from the sense of stuck-ness I had last night. Most of the island is a dedicated marine sanctuary, and its beaches are lovely and mostly devoid of people. Then again, it's April, it's 65 degrees, and there's a pandemic. As for the town, it's a kitschy, eclectic sort of marine community that mostly works esthetically. It's still rebuilding after hurricane (Sandy?) I believe; many of the houses are in the process of being en-stilted, and when I say en-stilted, I mean 10 foot high pilons. I just hope it's enough for the next storm.
