That title used to be held, in my humble opinion by CA-395, which runs down the back of the Sierra in California next to Nevada. That is, until today. The title officially switches to its northern sibling, OR-395. Wow. Just Wow. In particular, the middle stretch just north of Lakeiew for 20 miles is absolutely spectacular. It was, in short, the best sunset of my life, which is saying something.
If you can manage to plan it (and I admit I was totally lucky), watch the sunset behind the mountains over Lake Abert. It was a religious experience, and a moment I'll not soon forget.
